Performers

Achille Bocus conducts the Orchestra a Plettro della Cittą di Milano, a 40-member mandolin and plucked string orchestra in which he has played since a child. He is also a professional double bass player with several symphonic, operatic and chamber music orchestras in Milan. Achille is visiting us for the summer.

Nicola Swinburne conducts the San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra and teaches classical mandolin throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. She is originally English. In 2005 and 2007 she studied with Dorina Frati in Italy where she also met Achille Bocus. In May, 2008, Nicola and Achille performed the Vivaldi Concerto for Two Mandolins together in Milan.

Sarah Bell is the concertmaster for the San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra. She has played with numerous mandolin orchestras, including the Aurora Mandolin Orchestra, the Instant Klezmer Mandolin Orchestra, and the Providence Mandolin Orchestra. She learned to play mandolin from her father, Josh Bell, concertmaster of the Providence Mandolin Orchestra. In her spare time, Sarah works as a software engineer for Google.

Howard Kadis and Tony Kaye (pictured left in SF Mandolin Orchestra next to Sarah) are both well-known local guitar and mandolin players and occasional soloists with San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and Opera. Tony is well known for his musical arrangements for local theatrical shows and his contributions to music teaching at the Cazadero Music Camp. Howard is also an accomplished lutenist and will be playing Archlute for the Cembalo part for two of our concertos.

Eric Hamilton enjoys a multifaceted career as solo and ensemble performer, recording artist, arranger, teacher, and industry-recognized instrument technician. Since 1994, Eric has collaborated with Mason Williams, composer of the triple-Grammy winner, Classical Gas (1968) and produced four commercial CDs. In 2006, Eric released solo guitar recording The Renaissance Guitar (erichamiltonmusic 2006). Eric teaches guitar at the Cathedral School for Boys, Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, the Guitar and Rock Ensemble at the Conservatory of Vocal and Instrumental Arts (COVA), Golden Gate Academy, Oakland, as well as privately.
Todd Billeci began his formal music training in cello at 6 years old and has a wealth of experience in cello, harpsichord, and viola da gamba early music performance. In 2003 he began to play mandocello and later, liuto cantabile, a mandocello with additional treble E-string. Eric and Todd have recently started performing in the duo Her Majesties Noyse.
